Trump's plan calls on Ukraine to limit the army to 600 000 men and withdraw from Donbas
Ukraine says it is ready to negotiate, even though the White House and the Kremlin have secretly negotiated the peace plan behind the backs of Ukraine and the EU.
the US-designed peace plan for Ukraine with Russia requires Kiev to limit its army to a maximum of 600 000 men after the war, as well as to exclude Ukraine from NATO and to leave the land of the Donbas region under its control today.
Kiev received the document on Thursday from representatives of the Pentagon and has said that, in principle, it is ready to negotiate.
The document, agreed by the United States and Russia, has been released by various Ukrainian media and the Washington War Research Institute (a thin thak specialized in conflict).
The Ukrainian army currently has about 900 000 troops. Kiev has said that, after the war, it wants to maintain a large number of well-armed armed forces to deter Russia from invading its territory again.
In the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, there are two administrative units, Lugansk and Donetsk. Russia controls almost all of Lugansk and 75% of Donetsk.
Trump's plan has suggested that the other two fighting regions, Jerson and Zaporiyia, remain under the control of both countries, depending on the division that marks the front line at the time of the cessation of hostilities.
One of the key points is the Zaporiyian nuclear power plant, which is the largest in Europe and which has been under Russian control since almost the beginning of the conflict and which, according to the plan, would share electricity equally between the two countries.
The White House and the Kremlin have negotiated this peace plan secretly and at the expense of Ukraine and the EU in recent weeks. If it were signed, President Volodimir Zelenski would have to hold elections within 100 days of the document's entry into force.
Zelenski ended his term in May 2024, but Ukrainian law prohibits voting while the country is at war and will remain in office indefinitely until further elections are possible.
On the other hand, the peace plan guarantees amnesty to all actors involved inthe war and provides for the use of part of the assets that the West froze to Russia for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The text also provides for religious freedom and the recognition of the Russian language in education and the prohibition of "Nazi ideology and activities" in Ukraine.
