Zelenski confirms he will not relinquish territory and is preparing a new revision of the peace plan
Zelenski has explained that eight of the initial 28 points of the plan presented by the Donald Trump administration have been removed from the totally unacceptable eight points for Kiev during the meetings between Kiev and Washington in Geneva, Abu Dhabi and Miami.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has stated after meeting European leaders in London and Brussels on Monday and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte that he has no right to relinquish territory to Russia and hopes to present a new peace plan to US negotiators this Tuesday, revised from Kiev's perspective.
Zelenski said at a press conference following Monday's meetings with Europeans that "we have no right under the law to grant any territory, whether under Ukrainian law, our Constitution or international law, if we are fair.
Ukraine's President Vladimir Putin has thus alluded to Russia's request to hand over to Moscow the territory still under Kiev's control in the Donbas region. In addition to what he has acquired on the battlefield, Russian President Vladimir Putin demands as a condition that the Ukrainians withdraw their weapons from the area they now control in the territory of Donbas.
Putin could also demand that Ukraine and the community recognize as part of Russia the territories it has occupied by force. Kiev has been willing to de facto assume Russia's control over those territories, but has not allowed the borders to be changed even on paper and legally recognized.
Zelenski has explained that eight of the initial 28 points of the plan presented by the Donald Trump administration have been removed from the totally unacceptable eight points for Kiev during the meetings between Kiev and Washington in Geneva, Abu Dhabi and Miami.
"There are, of course, difficult territorial issues. No compromise has yet been reached on this," Zelenski explains in his last public engagement.
The Ukrainian president added that his administration expects the revision of the draft plan that was negotiated last week in the US to be completed today and the new version sent to Washington.
