Xabier Paya has been appointed Director General of Bilbao Bizkaia Museoa
Sorkunde Aiarza, managing director of Bilbao Bizkaia Museoa, will lead the Basque Paya Museum, which manages Bilbao, the Bilbao Museum of Reproductions and the site of the convent of San Francisco.
The association manages the Basque Museum in Bilbao, among others.
Bilbao Bizkaia Museoa has appointed Xabier Paya as General Director of the Association, who will join the management team together with Sorkunde Aiarza, who will retain the position of Managing Director.
The appointment was approved at the last meeting of the board of directors formed by the Bilbao City Council and the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, following a selection process that began in March.
Bilbao Bizkaia Museoa manages the Basque Museum Bilbao, the Bilbao Museum of Reproductions, the site of the former convent of San Francisco and an external warehouse, according to its officials in a press release.
It is precisely tomorrow that the restored Basque Museum in Bilbao will open.
Paya has been director of the municipal cultural institution Getxo from 2021 to 2026. She has also worked for the Donostia 2016 European Capital of Culture Foundation, taking over the cultural leadership.
