Aitor Esteban calls for a new political status at his first Party Day as PNV leader

The Basque Nationalist Partycelebrated this Sunday the Alderdi Eguna of 2025. The jeltzales met early in the morning in the Alavesa town of Foronda. It was a special day for the attendees and more special for Aitor Esteban, his first Alderdi Eguna as president of the PNV.

On a renewed stage, Esteban has shown from the very first moment the "indescribable" emotion he felt, even during his speech. 

In the speech of the PNV leader, in which the self-government has had a special place, Esteban has said  that Euskadi "wants more self-government" and that is the direction in which jeltzale training will work, "either by completing the Gernika Statute or through a new status".

However, Esteban has made it clear that in the medium term it will be decided in Europe, not in Madrid.

In this regard, the president has highlighted the "legacy of the tradition" of jeltzales, the fruit of "decades of commitment and bold decisions, "and ultimately the construction of a" reliable country. "

Inthis time of "extreme bipolar times" , Aitor Esteban has defended the centrality of the PNV , which is neither left nor right.

"We can't be more centrist. In balance, in wisdom. That's our way of doing politics, that's our commitment, and it will remain so," Esteban explained. EBB's president says that's the right way to do politics, so the PNV will continue to work along that path .

With regard to the future, Esteban has paid particular attention to the forthcoming electionsto the Spanish Congressof Deputies. In this regard, the PNV leader has referred tothe possibility of forming a joint list with EH Bildu, making it clear that the parties are "radically different" .

"A joint list for what? What do we agree on if Otegi has just said that the country's policies should be turned 180 degrees? Our country will be the same, but our ideas will not," Esteban said.

Finally, he has made special mention of the "alarming" situation in the world, where "wars and dehumanization" prevail. In response, the President of the PNV has expressed his full solidarity with Palestineand strongly criticized the actions of the Israeli Government.

Strengthen self-preservation

The lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, has also spoken in Foronda to stress the need to "strengthen self-government." The lehendakari has stressed how difficult the powers agreed from Madrid are to be transferred to the Basque Country, despite the progress made in recent months.

Pradales has said that his government "will continue to fight for all transfers ", precisely because "since 1979 they have belonged to the Basque Country, legally and by referendum", although he has said that in the State there are "dangerous" speeches about self-government, identity and Basque institutions.

The lehendakari reiterates that the Basque Country is working "not only to protect the home from the storm, but also to prepare for the future". With this message, he reiterates that the Basque Governmentwill continue to shieldits self-government.

In conclusion, Pradales has also addressed the international situation during his speech, denounced the "genocide" suffered by the people of Palestineand highlighted the solidarityof the Basque Country in the face of violence and inhumanity.
