March 3 calls on the Spanish Government to recognize the main and direct responsibility of the State for the crimes of March 3, 1976
The Association calls for "an official statement denying the official Franco version and recognizing the Kingdom of Spain as responsible for the criminal activity of the police".
March 3The Association of Victims has requested that the Spanish Government recognize "the main and direct responsibility of the State for the crimesof March 3, 1976 ", in which five workers were killed and numerous injuries were recorded as a result of the actions of the Armed Police, which will be 50 years in a week.
At apress conference, the spokesmen, Andoni Txasko and Nerea Martínez , called for "an official statement denying the official Franco version and acknowledging that the Kingdom of Spain is responsible for the criminal activity of the police".
"This demand is still pending a response," they have stressed, recalling that in recent weeks it has been taken to the plenums of Vitoria, Pamplona, San Sebastián and Astigarraga with the support of PNV, EH Bildu, Geroa Bai and Elkarrekin.
This Thursday, the "Responsible State" initiative will be debated in the Basque Parliament, where the Association March 3 will defend a motion calling on the Spanish Government to "recognize the main and direct responsibility of the State for the crimes committed on 3 March 1976 in Vitoria-Gasteiz and the 1978 sanfermines".
The text urges the Spanish Government and the President to make, at the highest level, an official declaration in the terms set out in the first point, and the competent institutions to take "real and definitive steps" to guarantee the right to truth of the victims of State violence, thereby opening the door to compulsory justice and reparation so that similar events do not recur.
This initiative, launched together with the San Fermines 78 Gogoan collective , was launched last June to try to ensure that those affected obtained personalized recognition from the State, highlighting the favourable response of the 39 cases submitted , including the nine deaths in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Tarragona, Basauri, Pamplona and San Sebastián.
However, the March 3 collective recalls that "the initiative is not limited solely to this procedure provided for in Law 20/2022 on Democratic Memory", but is accompanied by the requirement for the official recognition of the principal and direct responsibility of the State for these crimes, in order to demand "an official declaration denying the official version of Francoism and acknowledging the Kingdom of Spain as responsible for the criminal activity of the police".
