Mikel Hidalgo Bordegarai will be the PNV candidate for the municipal elections in Bilbao, replacing thecurrent mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, after he announced last Saturday that he will not head the PNV list in the municipal and foral elections of 2027.
The name of Aburto's replacement has emerged from the meeting between the Bilbao Boards, in which, in addition to the Bizkaia Buru Batzar, the 13 municipal bodies in the capital are represented, which began at 7 p.m. and ended with the appointment of the replacement.
Hidalgo is a member of the Basque Nationalist Party and a member of the Executive of EAJ-PNV in Bizkaia.
Since the end of last year, he has been responsible for the Bilbao 2040 reflection process developed by the PNV to lay the foundations for the future of Bilbao, in which people linked to the political, social, cultural, sporting and economic spheres of the capital have participated.
The PNV has pointed out that the municipal elections of May 2027 are seen as part of the process of innovation initiated by the PNV two years ago, which is gradually introducing new people and groups into the areas of political and institutional representation.

Who's Mikel Hidalgo?
Born in 1993, he lives in Bilbao, where he holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Deusto and speaks Basque, Spanish and English.
He began his professional career as a financial auditor at PwC (Pricewaterhouse Coopers), then as an investment and portfolio analyst at Seed Capital.
Linked to the Basque Government since 2022, he has worked in Lehendakaritza, first with lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, and now with lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, as one of those responsible for implementing the 2030 United Nations Agenda in the Basque Country .
In particular, he participated in the process of opening the Secretariat of the 2030 Local Coalition in Bilbao, which coordinates the implementation of this agenda at the local level in the world and is the first United Nations office in the Basque Country.
