Mikel Hidalgo Bordegarai will be the PNV candidate for the municipal elections in Bilbao, replacing thecurrent mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, after he announced last Saturday that he will not head the PNV list in the municipal and foral elections of 2027.
The name of Aburto's replacement has emerged from the meeting between the Bilbao Boards, in which, in addition to the Bizkaia Buru Batzar, the 13 municipal bodies in the capital are represented, which began at 7 p.m. and ended with the appointment of the replacement.
Hidalgo is a member of the Basque Nationalist Party and a member of the Executive of EAJ-PNV in Bizkaia.
Since the end of last year, he has been responsible for the Bilbao 2040 reflection process developed by the PNV to lay the foundations for the future of Bilbao, in which people linked to the political, social, cultural, sporting and economic spheres of the capital have participated.
The PNV has pointed out that the municipal elections of May 2027 are seen as part of the process of innovation initiated by the PNV two years ago, which is gradually introducing new people and groups into the areas of political and institutional representation.
The jeltzale party believes that they have reached the election meeting with a very strong leadership, a governing coalition without major clashes, a programme that is being implemented and with important projects in mind for the future of the city. They believe that with this innovation, a new project of the future can be given continuity and leadership.
That is why the PNV has decidedto give way to a new generationwhich, on the one hand, will reflect the historical trajectory of the PNV and, on the other, will represent and respond to the aspirations, demands and needs of a new generation, especially people between the ages of 30 and 50 who symbolize the diversity of the new society, contemporary family models and networks of social relations.
