Sare and Etxerat have again mobilized on the beaches to claim a "destination" where "all" ETA prisoners are "at home."
Hundreds of people have gathered in the 11 herring areas of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa to demand that prisoners still in captivity apply ordinary prison policy.
The citizen network and the association of relatives and friends of Basque political prisoners and exiles, Etxerat, have again mobilized on 11 beaches ofBizkaia and Gipuzkoa to demand a "definitive solution" to the issue of ETA prisoners. Both hope that today's will be the "last mobilization "of this kind and have claimed the" goal "of" all "ETA prisoners.
Both associations have called for "deepening" ordinary prison policy so that the 45 ETA prisoners who are still in a closed regime — 32 are members of the EPPK — belonging to the Collective of Basque Political Prisoners — "step on the street".
At an event held on the beach of Ondarreta in San Sebastián, representatives of Sare and Etxerat read a statement in which they stressed that "we are calling for a definitive solution" to the issue of ETA prisoners
"We have been mobilizing for years on the first weekend of August, and we are clear what our goal is: that today is the last time we have to carry out this mobilisation for the last time, because that would show a Basque society that, on the way to applying ordinary legislation, does not need to mobilize on the beaches in summer, "they said.
To this end, they have stressed the need to "deepen" ordinary prison policy, which, in their view, "will be essential if we are to overcome the scenarios of the past and focus on coexistence and the future, the resolution of the case of 13 refugees and 3 deportees who remain in exile for years."
Commitment to peace, resolution and coexistence
"It is time to open the doors to peace, solution and coexistence, to resolve a dispute that has caused and continues to cause immense suffering for years, we who represent the majority of Basque society are clear, we want and need to reach the goal, the goal, the day when everyone is at home," they said.
In view of the demonstration that will take place in Bilbao earlier this year, they have said that they will make "the greatest effort of all time to imagine that we want to cross a destination", to claim that "we want to know a Euskal Herria without a prisoner of ETA."
