Heat waves

Since the beginning of the summer fire wave, some 34,000 people have been evicted and 413,992 hectares have been burned in 268 fires, and 48 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement.

The risk remains extreme and the risk level will not drop until Thursday or Friday, so the authorities have called for extreme caution.

Six fires remain at the highest level of gravity and two have been declared this very Sunday. The positive development of the last few days has allowed six others to be taken under control. However, rising temperatures, coupled with reduced humidity and wind, complicate the situation again.

Of the most worrying forest fires, five are in Leon, while in Asturias the three largest fires have been stabilized.

On Monday there will be very high temperatures inside, while on Tuesday temperatures will drop and rain will fall at some points.

According to a recent report, 2.4 billion people may be exposed to extreme temperatures while working.

Extinction work is currently under way in the municipality of Fasgar (Leon), where thousands of hectares of fire have been burned, with a capacity of 1,000 litres.

A total of 58 firefighters from the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) have travelled to Castilla y León to assist in the control of forest fires following the Board's request for assistance to the Basque Government, while 24 professionals from Navarra have travelled to Asturias.

Around a thousand people in León have protested against the management carried out so far and have called for resignations, as well as the declaration of level 3 emergency, so that the management would be transferred from the Junta de Castilla y León to the Spanish Government.

In summer, there have already been 65 deaths from pathologies associated with excessive temperatures.

In particular, the measure was taken after the Junta de Castilla y León requested assistance from the Basque Government Eusko Jaurlaritza, thus joining the helicopter recently sent to help put out the fires.

Thus, four people have already died as a result of the fires on the Iberian peninsula, three of them in the province of León, where the fourth victim died on Tuesday from burns in Tres Cantos (Madrid).

The union has appreciated the "great effort" of the forest firefighters, as well as the support of farmers, citizens and associations that have helped put out the fires this summer.

This Sunday the red alert has been activated in Navarre for extreme high temperatures and orange alert in Álava and Iparralde, with yellow warning in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, although cloud cover will increase and rain will begin, especially in Iparralde, where the yellow warning for the risk of storms will be activated tomorrow.

In addition to high temperatures, the risk of fire increases, and the risk increases if agricultural work is to be done, such as harvesting. In Álava, no fire prevention measures are ordered, butfarmers  take steps to prevent fires.

According to Euskalmet, the northwest wind has spread inland and temperatures have fallen slightly in the early afternoon, especially in northern Álava.

Many citizens have expressed concern and powerlessness about the burning of their homes. More than 300 people have been evacuated from the Ponferrada area and 3,000 people are out of their homes in León.

Castilla y León, Asturiasand Cantabriahave used themassive emergency communication system  on Saturday to ask citizens near the Peaks of Europe to cease any mountain activity. This is the first time three Autonomous Communities have used the service in a unified manner.
