Israel demands that Hamas comply with the agreement and hand over the bodies of the murdered hostages
Hamas has handed over the bodies of four hostages to Israel through the Red Cross, but according to the Israeli authorities there are still 24 others to return.
The Israeli Army has confirmed that the Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement has handed over the bodies of four hostages killed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who have been transferred from the Gaza Strip to Israeli territory as a result of the ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli Defence Forces (FDI) have determined that the ICRC has first handed over two bodies, and shortly thereafter two others, after being transferred from the south of the Palestinian enclave to the meeting point with military groups. After inspecting the coffins, wrapped in Israeli flags, a brief religious ceremony was held in front of a military rabbi inside the Strip, and a passage in the Book of Psalms was read.
The bodies have subsequently been transferred to the Abu Kabir National Institute of Legal Medicine in Tel Aviv to confirm their identities. "We ask for caution and to wait for official identification, which will first be communicated to the families," the FDI said.
Hamas's armed wing, the Ezeldin al-Qassam Brigades, has reported that the four hostages killed are Guy Illouz, Yossi Sharabi, Bipin Joshi and Daniel Perez, the latter commander of the Israeli Army, who died on 7 October 2023.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has accused Hamas of failing to comply with the agreement promoted by US President Donald Trump by handing over only four of the 28 bodies that, according to Israeli authorities, would remain held in Gaza. "Any deliberate delay or omission will be considered a flagrant violation of the agreement and will have an answer," Katz has warned in Account X.
