Israel kills renowned journalist Anas Al Sharif and four other reporters in Gaza
The Israeli Army has attacked a media tent in Gaza City, killing at least seven people. The UN denounced a "defamation campaign" against the Al Yazira informant.
Palestinian journalist Anas al Sharif and four other Al Yazira television reporters have been killed in the Israeli attack on a media store in Gaza City.
The chain advanced it by citing medical sources, and the Israeli Army has confirmed to its Network X account that Al Sharif was killed in an attack on the Palestinian enclave and that Hamas was integrated into the structure of the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement.
Al Sharif, Mohamed Qreiqeh of the town of Jabalia, 28, and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa, along with two other people, have been killed by an explosive device fired at a tent for journalists outside the Al Shifa hospital, the director of the medical centre told the chain.
A total of 10 Al Yazira workers have been killed by the Israeli Army since the start of the offensive against the Gaza Strip in October 2023. According to the Gazatis authorities, 237 information professionals have since been killed in Israeli attacks under Hamas control and have been accused of "intentional" actions.
Last month, the Israeli Army, through its spokesman, Avichai Adraee, denounced Al Sharif as amember of the Ezzeldin Al Qassam Brigades of Hamas, a complaint that was rejected by the media and the journalist himself, who claimed to be the victim of a "threat campaign" for "his work as a journalist."
"I confirm it: I, Anas Al Sharif, am a journalist without political affiliation. My only mission is to inform the truth, as it is," he said in his account on the X social network, then denouncing that "when a deadly famine in that Gaza, telling the truth, in the eyes of the occupation, has become a threat."
After the Israeli Army confirmed the journalist's death, it has insisted that it "took the form of an Al Yazira journalist, but was the leader of a Hamas terrorist cell and directed advanced attacks on Israeli civilians and troops. "
"Intelligence and documents from Gaza, including lists, terrorist training records and payroll, show that this was an infiltrating Hamas operation. A press certificate is not a shield for terrorism, "the Israeli Army said.
