UEFA against Israel: "Stop killing children, stop killing civilians"
Two Palestinian refugee children attended the UEFA Supercup final between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham, together with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
UEFA has used the framework of the European Supercup final held at the Friuli Stadium in Udine to convey its message to Israel. The President of the continental football federation, Aleksander Ceferin, has been accompanied by Palestinian refugees in the award of medals.
"Stop killing children. Stop killing civilians. "has been the banner shown in the initial photo on the grass in front of the Paris Saint-Germain and the Tottenham alignments. The message has spread lightly on social media, although they have criticized the ambiguity of the appointment as anti-Israel for its invasion of Gaza.
UEFA announced in a statement its intention to make this call, which will be attendedby children from various conflict zones . "Two Palestinian refugee children will participate in the medal ceremony, together with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, in the 2025 UEFA Supercup," they added.
The UEFA Children's Foundation invited these two children: Tala, "a 12-year-old Palestinian girl with delicate health, was taken to Milan for proper health care because there was no way to provide the necessary care in Gaza; and Mohamed, a 9-year-old boy who has lost his parents in the war and was seriously injured by an air strike."
Although they have not explicitly condemned Israel's conduct, UEFA has positioned itself against the conflict, as it does with its Foundation in Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria or Ukraine. The organisation that runs European football has also been at the centre of attention, after Liverpool star Mohamed Salah criticized its lack of firmness for not asking for explanations for the death of the 'Palastino Pelé'.
