This Sunday the fleet will depart from Barcelona to Gaza with food and medicines
A flotilla led by civilians will depart this Sunday, 31 August, from Barcelona to Gaza to deliver food and medicines to its citizens and denounce the "blockade and genocide" in Israel. The initiative will bring together about 50 ships with representatives from at least 44 countries, including the Basques.
The initiative, led by the Global Sumud Flotilla, envisages becoming the "largest humanitarian mission" to Gaza.
The first group of ships will depart on 31 August from Barcelona to Gaza, and on 4 September they will join more ships in Tunisia.
According to reports from the Global Movement to Gaza, persons selected for boarding have received specific training in "non-violent actions, techniques for peaceful conflict resolution and nautical assistance on land", and priority has been given to doctors, engineers, mechanics and people with a "large media speaker", including people in the political arena.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which will leave Barcelona at 2 p.m. for the Gaza Strip, wants to show the strength of the pro-Palestinian movement with "dozens of ships", the participation of 44 countries and thousands of volunteers.
This was assured by the spokesman for the Global Sumud Flotilla, Saïf Abukesh, during the rally called this Wednesday in Barcelona's Sant Jaume Square to condemn the murder of journalists in the Gaza Strip.
Abukesh said "more than 35,000 people" have applied to participate in the initiative.
"We cannot allow, as civil society and citizens of Barcelona and Catalonia, when we talk about our ports, to deal with the displacement of weapons. Our ports must defend human rights, "he proclaimed.
Mobilizations in the Basque Country
A Basque delegation will also participate in the humanitarian flotilla, and the Global Movement for Gaza Euskal Herria platform has announced that the four Basques will physically participate in the ships. They have preferred not to reveal the identity of the participants because "it is dangerous for security, for possible reprisals by Israel".
In order to protect the fleet, a number of activities have been organized in the Basque Country and from Monday to Friday they have held a fasting in the premises of the Association of Neighbours of the Old Town of Gasteiz Txiki to "raise awareness of the critical situation of the Palestinian people". At the end of the fasting, on Friday at noon, a demonstration was held from the Artium Museum.
On September 6th there will be another naval march in the Bilbao River between Santurtzi and the Maritime Museum. Global Movement for Gaza Euskal Herria calls for silent participation
From the political scene, a group of representatives of EH Bildu will travel to Barcelona this Sunday to show their support for the Palestinian people and for the "initiatives being taken in Euskal Herria to denounce the genocide and demand an end to the humanitarian drama that is shaking the Occupied Territories of Palestine".
