After congratulating the army and intelligence services, Katz asks them to continue the occupation of Gaza City. The Brigades and the Hamas movement have made no statement about this possible assassination.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has announced that the Israeli Army has killed Abu Obaida, spokesman for the Ezzeldin al-Qassam Brigades, head of Hamas's armed wing, in Saturday's attack on a suburb of Gaza.
"Hamas terrorist spokesman Abu Obaida has been eliminated in Gaza and sent to meet in hell with all the frustrated members of the axis of evil in Iran, Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen," Katz announced on the X social network.
The Minister of Defence has also congratulated the Israeli Army and Shin Bet, the internal intelligence agency in Israel, for the "perfect execution" of the bombing in the Al Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza.
Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu confirmed at the beginning of his cabinet meeting that the target of the attack on Gaza had been Obaida.
The Brigades and the Hamas movement have made no statement about this possible assassination. However, Hamas confirmed on Sunday that Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar, who led the Mohammed group since the murder of his brother Yahya Sinwar on 17 October, has come three months after Israel declared his death in an air strike.
Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive in Gaza following the attacks on Hamas on 7 October 2023, Obaida, spokesman for the Al Qasam Brigades, has produced numerous videos showing the Palestinian group's position on negotiations or the situation on the hostages.
In July 2024, Israel killed Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hamas's political leader and the party's most moderate face.
On October 17, Israel confirmed the murder of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, considered the leader of the 2023 attacks and the man most wanted by Israel in the Strip.
