Macron has announced that 26 countries have committed themselves to deploying or remaining troops in Ukraine
According to the French President, these forces will not be front-row and the aim of is "to prevent any new major attacks" and to involve those 26 countries in "lasting security in Ukraine." In the coming days, it will be determined to what extent and how the US will contribute to security in Kiev.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that 26 Coalition Volunteers countries are committed to deploying troops in Ukraine or to being present "on land, sea or air" to provide security guarantees to Kiev.
In a press appearance at the end of a meeting of 35 Ukrainian allies in Paris with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, Macron has insisted that these forces to increase security do not want to engage in any war with Russia, but "guarantee peace and give a very clear signal."
These forces will not be front-line, and the aim of is "to prevent any new major attacks" and to involve those 26 countries in "lasting security in Ukraine".
Without going into detail, Macron has pointed out that at the Volunteer Coalition meeting each country has defined "what it is prepared to do, each in its own role, and complementing each other." "Now, we're going to continue this work."
As he explained, in the coming days, the extent and manner of US aid to security guarantees for Ukraine will be determined. They will soon discuss with the White House the details of that aid, "from supervision to ceasefire, to all these security lines. And then we will have to formalize political texts, that is, to draft a lasting peace agreement and certainly a multilateral agreement or bilateral protection agreements to support that agreement," the French president said.
He further noted that the commitments reached in Paris "go far beyond" the solidarity and support agreements signed so far with Ukraine.
"The advantage of what we are doing here is that it goes much further. It is a military plan that specifies the contributions we are prepared to make to the Ukrainian army and our security forces. This is already an operational formalization. We will now work on legal and political formalization, which will be coordinated with a lasting peace treaty," he has proclaimed.
Zelenski declined to give details about America's possible involvement, for which "the important thing" is that Washington be with them.
