Hamas agrees to release all hostages, but demands that the terms of Trump's peace plan be negotiated
After several days of studying the plan proposed by the US president, the Palestinian group has indicated that it accepts some points of the proposal, but wants to continue negotiations.
The Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement announced on Friday that it is ready to release all Israeli hostages in order to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but has called for some details of the ceasefire plan to be discussed. US President Donald Trump's proposed 20-point plan after several days of analysis, the movement has sent a response to Qatari mediators.
On the one hand, it has stated that it agrees "to the release of all Israeli prisoners, both alive and dead, in accordance with the formula contained in the proposal, provided that the conditions for the operation are met", and has also expressed its "readiness to initiate immediate negotiations through intermediaries to discuss the details of the exchange".
Hamas has assured that its position has been based on "specific" consultations with other Palestinian factions and "Arab, Islamic and other international factions with the aim of stopping the war of massacres and aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."
For its part, a senior Hamas official, Mousa AbuMarzouk, has told al-Jazeera that they will not lay down their arms before the endof the Israeli "occupation" and has added that future affairs of Gaza must be discussed within a broad Palestinian national framework. The official added that Hamas will begin negotiations on issues related to the group and weapons.
