Iran sends a new proposal for peace negotiations to the US
Iran has sent the United States, through Pakistan, a new proposal for a peace negotiation. The news was reported this Friday by the official IRNA agency, which did not provide details of the content of the proposal.
Tehran also last week presented a proposal to Washington through Islamabad, on which occasion it offered to conduct negotiations in several phases, the first of which was to address the end of the war and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by both sides, leaving the issue of Iran's nuclear program to a later date.
According to US media, the proposal did not convince President Donald Trump because it delayed talks on his nuclear program.
Direct talks between the two sides are currently stifling. Iran refuses to sit down as long as the US maintains the naval blockade imposed on its ports and ships, a measure with which Washington seeks to stifle the Iranian economy.
On the other hand, Iran continues to control traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic corridor through which 20% of the world's oil flows, and the situation has led to fuel increases.
The two sides met in Islamabad on 11 and 12 April; it was a meeting at the highest level since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
At that meeting, however, no agreement was reached to end the war, a conflict that the US and Israel launched against Iran on 20 February and has been stalled since the truce of 8 April.
