France orders strengthening border controls with Spain following the Ceuta crisis

The migration crisis in Ceuta has created a situation that directly affects Euskal Herria. The French Government has strengthened border controls with the Spanish State and the measure will affect border crossings from Gipuzkoa and Navarre to the French Basque Country.
"Faced with the proven situation in the enclave of Ceuta, I have given the order since last night, without delay, to strengthen border controls in Spain," French Interior Minister Laurent Núñez said in a message posted on social media.

He has thus confirmed that the French authorities have activated the Rapid Border Intervention Forces "to carry out background checks".
In an interview with RTL, Núñez stressed that France already has controls at the Spanish border and recalled that these controls have been stepped upin recent years.
"We have a high-mobility unit that is permanently present and reinforces these controls," he said.
"Yesterday I spoke to my Spanish counterpart, and today we intend to speak again, so of course, if there is any movement to our territory, we will take action," he said, concluding that border crossing controls will, "logically," be further strengthened.
