According to Khamenei, the U.S. has not damaged any nuclear facilities and has taken a "hard slap" back
According to the Iranian supreme leader, the US has not been able to cause "significant damage" to Iran and its nuclear facilities; he has denounced that the US president "exaggerated the incident in his account."
Iran 's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has claimed thatUS attacks on its nuclear facilities have not caused "extraordinary damage," while arguing that Iran has "trampled on" Israel and slapped the US.
"The Zionist regime was almost knocked out and crushed by the blows of the Islamic Republic," Khamenei said in a message to the nation, adding that "the US has also been severely slapped."
In his message, the ayatollah has not spoken of the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump and which entered into force onTuesday morning, nor of the negotiations that are expected to resume next week (according to Washington).
But he has stressed that the US could not cause "extraordinary damage" to Iran and its nuclear facilities, and that the US president "exaggerated the incident in his account."
"Our nuclear facilities were attacked — which, of course, is subject to independent criminal prosecution in international courts — but they did nothing significant," he said, according to a transcript published by Tasnim, the agency linked to the Revolutionary Guard.
In return, Iran attacked the Al-Udeid base in Qatar. That attack, according to the leader, was minimized abroad, "saying nothing had happened when a really big incident happened."
"The fact that the Islamic Republic has access to important US centres in the region and can act against them when it deems it necessary is not a minor incident, but a major event that can be repeated in the future. If an attack occurs, the enemy will certainly pay dearly, "the Islamic leader said.
The conflict began on 13 June, when Israel launched an offensive against Iranian military and nuclear facilities. As a result, missiles and drones were exchanged between the two countries for almost two weeks. In addition, the US came in, bombing Iranian nuclear sites in the early morning of Sunday.
According to official data, the war left at least 28 civilians dead in Israel and 627 in Iran. It came to an end on Tuesday with the US-led ceasefire.
