FINUL accuses Israel of dumping "an unknown chemical" in southern Lebanon
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (FINUL) has accused Israelof launching "an unknown chemical" into southern areas. This operation has also led the Blue Helmets to "suspend more than ten activities" around the Blue Line, which marks the border between the two countries.
In a statement, he explained that the Israeli Army informed the mission on Sunday that it would "conduct air activity by launching what they described as non-toxic chemicals near the Blue Line." The Israeli Defense Forces (FDI) warned them that "peacekeepers should be far away and protected," a warning that they stopped their activity.
"Peacekeepers were unable to conduct a normal operation near the Blue Line until nine hours later, " they said, adding that "the Blue Helmets provided protection to the Lebanese Armed Forces when collecting samples for toxicity tests."
FINUL has denouncedthat "this activity was unacceptable" against UN Security Council Resolution 1701\u00A0.
"The deliberate and planned actions of the Israeli Armed Forces not only limited the ability of our peacekeepers to carry out their respective activities, but also endangered their health andthat of civilians , "FINUL said. In addition, the members of this mission have expressed concern about the impact of these chemicals on agricultural land and the problems they may have in returning civilians to their homes.
"This is not the first time that FDIs have fired unknown chemicals from aircraft into Lebanon, "DINUL has warned, reminding the Israeli Army that aircraft flights to Lebanon are a violation of Resolution 1701, and that" any action that endangers peacekeepers and civilians is a cause of serious concern. "
"We once again urge the FDI to cease all these activities and cooperate with the peacekeeping forces to protect stability," concludes the FINUL note.
