October 15 opens in San Sebastian the most powerful quantum supercomputer in Europe
The Ikerbasque campus in San Sebastian was originally scheduled to host an IBM Quantum System One, but once the agreement is updated they will have the System Two, the technology multinational's "jewel."
The Basque Government and IBM have confirmed the opening in San Sebastian on October 15 of the first European IBM Quantum System Two, a supercomputer witha 156 cube processor that will be installed on the Ikerbasque campus, the second of its kind in the world and the most advanced to date developed by the American company.
The Ikerbasque Foundation's campus in San Sebastian will host thelatest version of IBM's quantum computers family, which was originally scheduled to install a Quantum System One, but after updating the agreement it will be System Two, the technology multinational's "jewel."
The 156 cubit IBM Quantum Heron processor is designed to achieve the so-called "utility scale," that is, the power of calculation that allows it to solve complex problems impossible for classical computing.
This infrastructure will enable progress to be made in areas of application such as drugs, the development of new materials and batteries, the improvement of communication systems or fertilizer research, among others.
Quantum System Two will place the Basque Country as an international reference point for quantum computing.
