A year in prison and a two-year ban on access to football fields for racist insults to Iñaki Williams
Having reached an agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the accused has acknowledged the facts and has been sentenced by the judge to one year's imprisonment which he will not have to serve, compensation of 1,080 euros and a ban on entering football fields for two years for reducing his initial request for punishment and racist insults.
A one-year prison sentence and a two-year ban on access to football fields have been imposed on Athletic player Iñaki Williams, a fan of the Espanyol football team, who, in an agreement with the prosecution, has acknowledged the facts of racist insults to Williams during a La Liga match at Cornellà-El Prat stadium in 2020.
Accordingly, the judge has sentenced him to one year's imprisonmentwhich he will not have to serve, to compensation of EUR 1,080, to a ban on teaching for four years and to a ban on entering football fields for two years.
Iñaki Williams received whistles and insults from the audience around 14:30 in the afternoon, when he was changed while playing the game. Several fans broadcast monkey sounds to Athletic player Iñaki Williams.
The Public Prosecutor's Office considers this to be "blunt and notorious" and something repeated by groups of fans from different countries to publicly insult black-skinned footballers.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, they "despised the black color of the player's skin" by uttering racist cries and gestures of contempt for his person, which gave Williams feelings of frustration, shame, and humiliation.
